The Doctor is In
Dr. Deborah R. Starr
Head of School
What a glorious evening; and such a fitting way to cap off the school year. A Musical Journey: From Symphony to Stage, last night at CityStage was perfect. The music was sublime, the food delicious, the audience enchanted - and our two honorees, Ann Pava and Ellen Freyman, justifiably toasted and cheered. Thank you to everyone that made this evening possible. Our performers: Gilya Hodos and Eileen Strempel. Our sponsors: the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, Florence Dental Care and the Falk Families, and CBS Channel 3 Springfield. Our caterer: Culinary Creations. Our middle school students who proudly answered "Ask Me About Heritage Academy" questions. Lara Temkin-Pisani, for setting up an informative and colorful Heritage Academy display table (with an exciting photo loop of our students in a variety of activities and learning situations). Denise Broverman, for a complete Ad Journal. Event Chair: Tova Hyman. Event Coordinator: Diane Rosenkranz. But most of all, to everyone who attended, got and gave ads to the Ad Journal, and donated to our Annual Fund. There is no school for our children without the financial support of all of you. Thank you for choosing and supporting Heritage Academy. The community needs us, and we need you. It is a great partnership. Tell your friends about us (and our special one-time tuition offering of $2,500 - call for details). We have room to grow. |

D'var Torah
Jewish Life Director
In our Parasha we learn about the trumpets that the Jewish people used as a device to call for meetings, assemblies and on special days and holidays. Blowing the trumpets was the job of the Levites, who were also in charge of playing appropriate musical instruments in connection with special daily offerings in the Temple. At the end of the parasha we meet Miriam, Moshe's sister, who was a woman of valor who led the women of Israel to recite thanksgiving Tefillah following the miracle at the Red Sea. On that occasion, Miriam was beating a drum while dancing together with all of the other Jewish women. From all of this we can discern the value of music as an integral component in our lives that elevates and enhances both our spirit and our joy. Yesterday, Heritage Academy celebrated an annual event in a unique way: A Musical Journey from Symphony to Stage. This lovely concert lifted our spirits while providing an opportunity to contribute to the Heritage Scholarship Fund. Thank you all for your untiring support for education at Heritage. |
