ART PROGRAM
The goal of the Art Program at Heritage Academy is to help children grow creatively, aesthetically, socially, emotionally, physically, and educationally through exposure to a variety of media, techniques, and processes. Students will also gain an understanding and appreciation for the visual arts in relation to other curriculum areas. Students are also introduced to art history/art appreciation through famous artists and works of art. The art program is sequential for grades K-8. Eight basic art areas have been identified. They are: · Drawing · Painting
·
Collage · Printmaking · Two-dimensional design · Three-dimensional design · Crafts · Art appreciation. These eight art areas coincide with one another. In each, the student will gain knowledge and skills in the use of the basic vocabularies, materials, tools, and techniques. The basic skills introduced at the Primary Level will be practiced at the Intermediate Level, and reinforced again at the Middle School Level. Mastery of the skills and techniques can take place at any level, depending upon the individual child. Ideally, one artist per month will be studied. The study of one particular masterpiece may also be explored. Choice of artist may reflect current events (i.e. a black artist for Black History Month, a Jewish or Israeli artist, a female artist, etc.).
